Letterpress Workshop/Artist Talk with James Bryans & Ann Ong – COMPLETED

Saturday 26th April 2025 10am – 2pm

P. James Bryans presents “Whiffle Piffs”, a playful and imaginative RISO printed book that brings together text and printmaking in a way that explores language, nostalgia, and storytelling. Drawing inspiration from historical touch typing manuals and using Artificial Intelligence as a tool, Whiffle Piffs is both a visual and linguistic experiment, showcasing the intersection of traditional and contemporary print techniques.
Following the talk, participants will have the opportunity to engage in a hands-on Letterpress Workshop, featuring special guest presenter Ann Ong from Bright Press. Using wooden type and a Provisional Press, attendees will learn the fundamentals of letterpress printing and create their own small poster. Whether printing their name or a chosen word, this session offers a unique chance to experience the tactile joy of traditional letterpress printmaking.
Cost is $60 for members & $70 for non-members.

Two Day Linocut Workshop for Beginners with Andrea Schell – SOLD OUT!!

Saturday 17th May and Sunday 18th May 10am – 3pm

Dive into the world of linocut printmaking!

Whether you are new to printmaking or looking to refresh your skills, this two-day workshop will introduce you to a range of linocut techniques to give you the confidence to create your own dynamic and colourful prints.

Your tutor, Andrea Schell, will cover the foundations of carving, inking and printing a single-plate design before exploring more advanced colour techniques, including multi-plate, jigsaw, and reduction printing. Using both hand-printing methods and an etching press, you will develop an understanding of materials, tools and creative possibilities.

“Finding the Light” Pastel Workshop with Val Brooks – SOLD OUT!!

“Finding the Light” with artist Val Brooks is a workshop using pastels to develop an impressionistic view of the landscape by finding the contrasting light and shadows. Val Brooks is an Australian artist living in Mandurah. She has developed her pastel style over the past 25 years winning a number of awards. 2 Day Urban Sketching Workshop with Andy Dolphin – BOOKED OUT!!

SATURDAY 29TH & SUNDAY 30TH MARCH 9am – 3pm

In this two-day workshop with award winning Artist Andy Dolphin, you will be guided through a process of analysing a scene, simplifying the shapes, dealing with the much-dreaded issue of perspective and playing with perspective for a different look. You will also spend some time working on details like cars and people and using expressive pen work to lift a simple drawing to the next level.

Weather permitting, the course will include indoor and outdoor exercises using pen and watercolour, all in the beautiful historic surrounds of Edenvale and Pinjarra’s Main Street. 

This workshop is suitable for beginners or those who have some drawing skill but who want to improve the fundamentals or add a bit of colour to their work. 

This Murray Arts and Crafts Community Workshop is generously funded by South 32 and Community Underwriting.

Bookings are now closed for this series of 4 workshops about Colour In Art.
The course will teach you how to:
– see colour in isolation, see colour relationships and see colour values.
– identify colour temperature
– understand colour psychology & symbolism
– pick colours that go well together and convey the right mood or message in your work
and then you will be ready to study composition and the role of colour in designing works.
This course is suitable for adults who want to build on their basic drawing skills.

MON 13 JAN – Introduction to Stained Glass

Have you always wanted to try working with glass? This Introduction to Stained Glass/Leadlight (Copper foil technique) Workshop is designed to introduce beginners to the process of developing their own glass creation that students will be able to take home with them. 
Students will choose from a variety of simple patterns and different colours of glass, which will make each creation distinctly unique.
The Workshop will cover cutting techniques, grinding glass, copper foiling, soldering and the use of patina.
All materials will be provided. Covered shoes are required and students must be over 18 to participate. Gardening gloves are also useful to protect your hands during soldering.
A light morning tea will also be provided.


MON 13 JAN – Introduction to Monotype Printing

A great opportunity to begin your Printmaking journey. In this fun and engaging workshop you will earn the basics of monotype printmaking & all the materials you need, plus how to do it at home without an etching press. Bridget will teach you mark making skills to create an image & how to create layers using 2 or more colours. You will be creating different effects using masking out techniques and solvent (minimal use.) You will also try different papers to produce different effects. You will also be able to use different elements of landscape and plant forms to create a number of prints. All materials will be provided. Suitable for 18yrs+ Beginners / Intermediate.
Bridget Seaton studied Fine Art in the UK and is a qualified arts educator, teaching both adults and children in the community. Her work has been selected for various printmaking and painting shows and she won First Prize in the printmaking category of the Beverley Arts Prize 2022.


TUE 14 JAN – Experimental Drawing

Join this MAACS workshop for ages 10 -100 and ALL abilities, and you will receive an A5 notebook, to keep, to use for the experimental drawing techniques taught during the workshop. After the workshop you will have a personalised journal that you may use to practice drawing, record daily or noteworthy events in your life, or whatever appeals to you. All materials supplied.

TUE 14 JAN – Drawing Magical Mandalas

Spoil yourself by taking a few hours away from the real world & escape into creativity…… Join Pam Bailey and unwind as you learn how to create a beautiful Mandala. Mandala is a Sanskrit word meaning “circle,” symbolizing the universe’s infinite nature. You may have seen mandalas in adult colouring books, but have you ever thought of drawing your own? This workshop offers the chance to create a mandala on cardstock. You’ll start with a basic grid and template, then unleash your creativity with repetitive lines, curves, and shapes to form a unique design. Alternatively, you can draw inspiration from samples provided.
Before you know it, you’ll be “In the zone”! You’ll leave this experience feeling calm and centred as well as connected to like-minded people with some new skills that you can take home and practice too! All materials provided. Just bring an apron. Suitable for 18+


WED JAN 15 – Painting Without Brushes

This painting workshop with Susan Sharp offers you the opportunity to have fun creating an artwork using acrylic paints and tools other than brushes. During the session you will apply paint to the canvas using palette knives, sponges, card and other materials. 
You will paint a scene exploring techniques that create visual interest through the use of texture, colour and layers of paint. 
Come along and see how quickly your painting takes shape without relying on brushes, and you don’t have to wash them afterwards.!
Working with paint is fun! Painting without brushes is exciting!
All the materials will be supplied. You just need an apron, some palette knives if you have them and closed in shoes. Suitable for 18+yrs. 


THU 16 JAN – Watercolour Travel Journal

Join James Walker, award winning artist, curator and educator, to explore creating small scale works in a watercolour travel journal to set you up for your next journey. James will share his experience and ideas about recording your travels and adventures, using minimal tools and materials, to create intimate keepsakes. Artists will also be guided through tips to problem-solve artworks and how to effectively complete each work.
Along with helpful advice and a demonstration participants will also complete their first journal entry and enjoy painting en plein air on the grounds of the beautiful Edenvale Heritage Precinct in PInjarra.
This Workshop is suitable for 18+yrs. Intermediate/Advanced.
You will need to bring your own materials.


FRI 17 JAN – Introduction to Peyote Stitch – Bead Weaving

Expert bead artist, Hilary Barton will be teaching Peyote Stitch in this Summer School 2025 Workshop. It is a stitch that can be difficult to learn but Hilary has developed a unique way to teach this stitch,
which makes it easier for students to learn and master.
Peyote is also used in several different ways in beading, so it is a good stitch to learn first particularly if you are just starting out on your bead weaving journey
Hilary Barton has run and taught beading groups for many years. She is a specialist in bead embroidery and seed beading.
Students will be working with size 8 and size 11 Japanese and Czech seed beads, with needle and thread. In Hilary’s Peyote Stitch Workshop you will start and finish a bracelet and will begin making your second one, which can then be completed at home. All materials will be provided. Suitable for Beginners and Intermediate, 18+yrs. 


SUN 19 JAN – Pop Art for Young Creatives

Learn about two fun contemporary art forms in this one workshop: Pop Art and Collage. 
After discussing various artists and viewing examples, we will find out about the tools and techniques we can use to create your own collage masterpiece to take home.
This workshop is presented by collage artist Claire Pannell who is fascinated with pop art and how it reflects the times we live in.
All materials and supplies are provided.
Optional: If you dare, have a photo taken of yourself and printed in the workshop to include in your collage artwork. Feel free to bring a costume for the photo.

Please note there are two sessions:
10am-11.30am for 7-10 yrs
1.00pm-2.30pm for 11-16yrs
